Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 7/24/17

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourned session with Robert S. Connell, Chairman and David E. Baier member and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

Commissioner Feldhausen was absent from the meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by Robert S. Connell seconded by David E. Baier. Motion carried.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Motion carried.
J & J Excavating, Axtell, KS
for machine hire
$2,227.50-Road & Bridge fund-P.O. # 108144

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to go into executive session for five minutes at 8:57 a.m. to discuss matters of nonelected personnel to assure compliance with policies and laws with Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson present. Unanimous. No action was taken as a result of the executive session.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

Central Plains Business Forms, Salina, KS
for tax statements
$645.05-General (Treasurer) fund-P.O. # 5400

DataWorks Plus, Greenville, SC
for data conversion for LiveScan
$1,440.00-General (Sheriff) fund-P.O. # 5347

Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave met with the Board to discuss having Central Mechanical Construction, Manhattan, KS replace 40’ of plumbing in the jail at the cost of $4,400.00. Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve Central Mechanical Construction replace 40’ of the plumbing at the jail at the cost of $4,400.00. Motion carried.

Public Works Adminstrator Mike Craig met with the Board to ask for a step increase for Jeremy Henderson, Marysville from Laborer, Probation at $15.11 an hour to Laborer I at $15.61 an hour effective August 1, 2017. David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the step increase for Jeremy Henderson, Marysville from Laborer, Probation at $15.11 an hour to Laborer I at $15.61 an hour effective August 1, 2017. Motion carried.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to adjourn at 9:45 a.m. Motion carried. The next schedule meeting will be Monday, July 31, 2017 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
