Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 7/17/17

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourned session with Robert S. Connell, Chairman and David E. Baier member and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

Commissioner Feldhausen was absent from the meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Robert S. Connell. Motion carried.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig, Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson and Public Works Laborer (Custodian) Jeremy Henderson met with the Board.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to go into executive session for five minutes at 8:34 a.m. to discuss matters of nonelected personnel to assure compliance with policies and laws with Public Works Administrator Mike Craig, Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson and Public Works Laborer (Custodian) Jeremy Henderson present. Unanimous. No action was taken as a result of the executive session.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Motion carried.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig reminded the Board that the bridge west of Lillis on Bobcat Lane between Sections 20 and 17 of Cleveland Township will be closed as of Wednesday for replacement.

Partnership for Growth representative Ellen Barber was present to observe the meeting at 9:30 a.m.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the Home Sewer bills and pay them from the appropriate funds available. Motion carried.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the Neighborhood Revitalization application for Joe and Jena Zimmerman Blue Rapids, KS with the preconstruction pictures that were provided by the applicant and the Neighborhood Revitalization application for Roy and Keli Yungeberg, Waterville, KS with the preconstruction pictures that were provided by the applicant. Motion carried.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

James Kelly, representative from Senator Jerry Moran’s office met with the Board.

North Central Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Doug McKinney and his daughter Leann McKinney met with the Board.

County Treasurer Jami Ellenbecker met with the Board to discuss the cost of Postal Presort to send and print tax statements. At this time the best solution cost wise is to continue as we have in the past by doing the work in-house.

Emergency Management Director William Schwindamann Jr. met with the Board to give them an update on the Emergency Management office.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the signing of the following Resolution and asking that County Clerk Sonya L. Stohs complete the deeds to have the ownership changed over. Motion carried.

 

 

 

 

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to adjourn at 11:30 a.m.  Unanimous.  The next schedule meeting will be Monday, July 24, 2017 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
