Washington County Commission Meeting Minutes – 6/26/17

The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday June 19, 2017 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Members present: Tim Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, David Willbrant, 2nd District Commissioner, Gary Ouellette, 3rd District Commissioner, and Diana Svanda, County Clerk to record minutes.

David Willbrant moved to approve the consent agenda items, Gary Ouellette seconded, all in favor. Motion carried.

David Willbrant had phone calls from Floyd Else about State line Road.

Tim Mueller reported he went to Heartland Works in Topeka.

Dave White, World-net – Reported on Fiber Internet. Tim Mueller ask Dave for a re-quote on Aire-spring, since the one they have is out of date.

Justin Novak, Road & Bridge Supervisor – Justin will go to a meeting in Junction City Bridge project 101-C-4697-1 Bridge number 162. Justin also reported he will meet with Hall Brothers about the North Washington Road, David Willbrant ask him to make sure he has contract. They have been doing patching around the county, and then will do scrubbing will be done after that. Justin also reported that there low-boy trailer is having issues, with the locks and the deck needs to be replace, he has been looking at different ones and this last one came from Landoll’s and the cost for a new one would be 30,000.00, commissioners ask Justin to get more information. Justin reported that he had talked to Floyd Else and opening the highland road to the east, this is a road that has not been used for some time and there needs to be trees removed. Gary Ouellette has Justin if he was budgeting for new equipment, so the motor graders can be replace.

Randy Hubbard, Emergency Management Director – Discussed the exercise on August 12, 2017 with commissioners. Hanover Days of 49 used the mobile message board, which will be pick up today. Mary Scott, Regional Salvation Army Coordinator will be bring fans for low income households. Hanover EMS reported to Randy that they were having trouble with their radios. David Willbrant reported to Randy that he received a phone call from Nick Garber about the Fire-Pup Program.

Francine Crome, County Appraiser – Francine ask for Executive session, Tim Mueller made the motion to go into Executive session under non-elected personal for 10 minutes, David Willbrant seconded the motion, motion carried, after returning to regular session no action was taken. Francine informed the commissioners that she will not be renewing her contract with Washington County. Commissioners ask Diana to place ads.

Justin Dragastin, Dragastin Insurance – Talked to the commissioners about the hail damage on all county building.

Tim Mueller moved to adjourn at 11:45 AM until 12:30 PM for Lunch, David seconded.

At 12:30 PM the Commissioners returned for the afternoon to work on budgets.

Washington County Offices will be closed Tuesday July 4, 2017 for the Holiday

Next regular meeting will be July 3, 2017

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
