Jewell County Commissioners – June 19, 2017

The Jewell County Commissioners met June 19, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. with Commissioners, Steve Greene, Mark Fleming and Keith Roe present. Carla J. Waugh, County Clerk was present for the meeting.

The minutes of the June 12, 2017 County Commissioners meeting were approved.

Angela Murray, Health Nurse, had for approval the Mitchell County Health Department Contract for the WIC program. Steve Greene moved that the proper officer sign the Mitchell County Health Department Contract to provide nutrition education for the WIC program participants. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Angela had quotes to purchase a television with WIC grant funds to provide education. She said the TV will only be used for WIC education. Mark Fleming moved to give permission to purchase a TV cart, TV and DVD player for approximately $400.79 with WIC grant funds.  Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Steve Greene moved and Mark Fleming seconded to sign the management representation letter related to the Jewell County Audit. Motion passed unanimously.

Teresa Shipley, Post Rock Extension District Office Professional introduced Barrett Simon, Livestock Agent for Post Rock Extension District.

Mark Fleming moved to approve abatement number 2284. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Don Jacobs, Sheriff, requested an executive session for 10 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel. Mark Fleming moved to go into executive session for 10 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel beginning at 9:08 a.m. with Sheriff, Don Jacobs. Keith Roe seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. Regular session resumed at 9:18 a.m. with no action taken.

Angela Murray, Health Nurse, discussed a nuisance complaint in Esbon with Don Jacobs, Sheriff and the County Commissioners.

Joel Elkins, General Superintendent, discussed road and bridge repairs. The Commissioners reported road concerns. Carla Waugh said a new road closing notice will be sent this week for Montrose. Mark Fleming said that Ervin Underwood telephoned with a compliment for Cody Volker for working the roads in Limestone Township. Joel Elkins said he is applying for a grant on a sign project. He said they purchased 400 ton of asphalt from Hall Brothers.

Keith Roe moved to approve the adjusting journal entries for 2016 budget year. Mark Fleming seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:08 a.m.

In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
